Title: "Scan Progress"
Post by: Jima on May 12, 2008, 01:58:26 AM
I remain (knock wood) an avast! user of four years who made the 4.8 update with no problems. :)
When I posted that first a few weeks ago, I mentioned an apparent new feature which noted the progress in percentage of a current scan.  Watching the "counter" today, it stayed at 0% up until about 80,000 files scanned, then jumped to 96% for the rest of the trip until completion.  48 minutes total, BTW, with no viruses found!
This is not a big deal or even a complaint, but I wonder if I have some setting that is preventing using this feature to its fullest.

There is no setting that might control or maximise this feature, I haven't experienced it on my system but a few have and posted in the forums. The beta build has made some improvements to the scanning speed in the on-demand scans, so that might well improve the % scanned feature.

If it isn't something you are overly concerned about it probably won't be worth trying the beta. However, if you didn't try the beta you wouldn't know if there was any change or no change at all.

So my way of looking at it is if when the new regular version update is released after the beta trials, then it would have to wait until the next program update and beta before a fix was even worked on.

avast beta 4.8.1192, see http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=34612.0 for information and link to aswbeta.exe which starts the conversion to the beta build.
