Hi,
i have been using avast for 3 months but i still don't know whether avst scans all packed viruses as it's default. If it isn't could u tell me a way i could set it to scan all packed viruses.

Yes,avast! scans all know packed infectable files that are mostly *.exe executables (ASPack,UPX and so on)
-
Go to Resident task settings for the Standard Shiel protection.
In the tab 'Scanner (Advanced)':
1. Check for scanning on 'open'
2. Check for scanning 'created/modified' files and write this line into the 'created/modified' box:
ACE,ARC,ARJ,BZIP2,CAB,COM,GZIP,PST,RAR,TAR,ZIP,ZOO,ECE
Hope this help ;)

Technical, this is not enough if you have Home Edition. Compressed archives (ZIP,RAR,...) will be scanned as normal binary and not as compressed archive thus not detecting malicous content.

sorry, i was talking about the .exe packers.does avast scan all .exe packers in the home edition.

Yes,both avast! Pro and Home (+all other) can check packed executables.
