Title: wireless connections
Post by: marieandgordon on June 07, 2008, 09:07:50 PM
Hi all, I probably shouldn't be posting here but dont know who else to ask.
My daughter has a laptop that uses vista, she has been accessing our wireless internet connection with no problem for the last few months. this week the wireless connection has not been showing up as one of the ones in range, we are picking up our neighbours but not ours. my laptop picks ours up no problem.
We have been able to locate it using a wireless usb stick that came with the router.
i can think that it will be due to any settings on the laptop as it is picking up some wirless connections but can not understand why it wont pick ours up,
any ideas anyone??

thanks
marie

I have this kind of problem with mine. I reboot and it usually returns normal ;)

rebooting doesnt work, i know on mine i sometimes have to, but this is really strange - do you think it could be a problem with the in built wireless card. the computer is about 6 months old and just started with this problem about 6 days ago - no amount or rebooting does anything - all we can pick up with the inbuilt wireless is the neighbours

My question to you is this: Is your daughters computer located in the same location as your laptop when your laptop picks up the wireless signal?  If the company you use for wireless has a marginal signal strength at your home/area it could be that if your daughter is in another part of your home with her pc the signal may not be strong enough for her machine to connect. When you connect to your wireless provider with your pc are you doing so from the same location all the time which may be different from your daughters? Just food for thought.  :) Your neighbors wireless signal that she picks up could be a stronger signal into your home than your own provider.

marieandgordon,

Have you tried the "repair connection" option?

Have you tried removing your network & then adding it back?
