I just downloaded the free version as it was recommended to me by a friend. I have about 30 "driver processes" running that Im fairly certain should not be there. Here are the results of the free scan :

avast! Virus Cleaner Tool - version 1.0.211 Unicode
You're using a very small antivirus, standalone, not the full antivirus avast.
No virus body found.

Files that can't be scanned are just that, not an indication they are suspicious/infected, just unable to be scanned. No virus was found with the 'small' set of viruses searched by the Cleaner tool.
Do you use any other resident antivirus in your computer?

<snip>
As Tech says this isn't the full anti-virus, but is only a 'cleaner' for a specific list of true viruses, that list is on the page where you downloaded the avast virus cleaner from.
This cleaner is an integral part of the full avast" Home/Pro antivirus.

Im a gamer and after my experiences with Norton, it never really did anything and just ate a ton of resources and killed performance, Id rather not have a full version installed 24/7, I was told the cleaner would catch most common viruses.
At any rate thanks for the replies.

You're welcome.
Your experience with Norton (a recognised resource hog) shouldn't colour your decisions about other AVs, especially avast. Those who have made the switch to avast from Norton frequently comment on how much more responsive their system is. Not to mention avast is a very configurable anti-virus.

It does not catch... it's not resident, it's not enough. It's for cleaning of very very few infections. Your Norton experience shouldn't be generalized as David said.
