Windows Vista preloaded on PC when I bought it from HP last summer Latest version of avast loaded.
Recently my mail program started doing this: Whenever I try to open, save or try to do anything with an attachment, my screen does a very fast flicker and the mail program reads at the top of the screen:Not Responding and I have to restart the mail program. Will avast cause this and if so what do I do to solve it? Thanks for any suggestions.

Which is your email program?
Which is your firewall?
Any other spam killer or email plugin?

I am using plain vanilla windows email that came with Vista.
The program makes no difference on what kind of attachment, they all hang. Including just saving a file.
For a firewall I use the standard in Vista.
As far as I know I am not using any spam killer or email plugin.
As I did not receive any software (seperate from the PC) when I bought the PC how the heck do I reload anthing? ANy help would be greatly appreciated.
