 :)  Hi :

 A "trojan ( Trj ) is NOT a "Virus" ; they are Best dealt with by an
 antiSPYWARE/antiTROJAN program . Did you ever install this type of program,
 like the FREE Version of "SUPERAntiSpyware" from www.superantispyware.com ?  I see when you were here in Jan, you had
 Symantec/Norton antivirus; have you removed it and gotten Avast ?

 Never, initially, attempt to "Delete" what a security program has "Detected";
 ALWAYS should try to "Quarantine" it . Is this what you mean by "Remove" ?

What is the infected file name, where was it found e.g. (C:\windows\system32\infected-file-name.xxx) ?
Check the avast! Log Viewer (right click the avast 'a' icon), Warning section, this contains information on all avast detections.

Why couldn't it be deleted (even though this is a bad first action), file in use, etc. ?

If you have XP, vista32bit or Win2k, you could enable a boot time scan. Right click the avast icon, select Start avast! Antivirus, Menu, 'Schedule boot-time scan...' Or see http://www.digitalred.com/avast-boot-time.php (http://www.digitalred.com/avast-boot-time.php).
