Title: Does Avast have a memory leak when running on Vista 64bit?
Post by: Texas-Hansen on September 04, 2008, 05:06:38 PM
I'm not 100% sure yet and need to do some more testing but noticed something that made me wonder if Avast has a small memory leak.  Perhaps its a known issue (small one) with the current build (4.8.1229) and is slated for a fix in the next build but am curious to find out.  Here why I think it might have a small memory leak.  I recently (6 days ago) installed Avast 4.8.1229 on my desktop running Vista 64bit (have been using Avast on my XP laptop with great results).  I was pleased to see that with Avast installed on my Vista system the idle memory usuage was quite good (compared to other AV programs previously run) and was consistently about 1.45 - 1.5 gb.  I had not been using the system the last 4 or so days and when I went to use it last night I noticed the system was idle but the memory in use had jumped up to 1.95 gb to 2 gb.  The last program to be installed on the system was Avast.  It's possible, even probable, this could be something else going on but since Avast was the last installed program, it made me wonder.   I rebooted and memory usuage while idle is back down to 1.45 - 1.5 gb and I'll watch it over the next few days (without using that system) to see what happens.
