Title: Computer port 1025 is open?
Post by: is_matrix on April 13, 2004, 12:20:24 AM
I did a scan to test my computer for open ports at a couple of web sites and I found that for some strange reason the 1025 port was open. I can close it using the xp firewall but I would like to figure out why it is open? Does anyone have a clue. I have read that the Remote Procedure Call (RPC ) uses this port  but I really don't understand why it is open all the time. Should Avast close this port or not ???

Maybe I misunderstand you, but, avast! is an anti-virus program and not a firewall.    ???

If I were you, I would not rely on XP's firewall only. This is only my opinion.    :)

I thought avast was a firewall too? It has a shield and it does have firewall settings?

No, avast! is not a firewall.

Hi,

port 1025 is usually open by default on Win2000 & XP systems.
if you google for info, you will find reports that e.g. Taskplanner is keeping it open
However, disabling taskplanner is not generally a good idea, especially on XP-Systems -> RESTORE and PREFETCH may not work any more..

imho there is no grave danger presently in keeping 1025 open as I don't know of an exploit using this, but surely you can close it to external access by XP's or other FW's

 ;)
