Title: Start Button greyed out so cannot scan

Hi...I am a recycled Teenager (over 60 ::)    I am having problems today in that I cannot send emails but I can receive.   I decided to do a scan with Avast....unable to do so.

The "start" button is greyed out.

Is there anyone who can point me in the direction as to what I have to do.   I am not technically minded but I managed to muddle along until I get a problem.   

Any help much appreciated. :-*

Which firewall do you use?
Which is your email provider, I mean, @server name in your email address?
