Title: Zone Entries
Post by: olddog on October 31, 2008, 04:05:23 AM
Does Avast use registry entries in Current User..Internet Settings/Zone Maps or Local Machine...Internet Settings/Zone Maps as part of its antispyware protection?

I am trying to track down the software ownership of some "blocking" entries in these locations that in this instance do not belong to SpybotSD. Other possible owners are Zone Alarm Free Firewall 7.0.483.000 perhaps installed as part of the overall suite, even though only the Free Firewall was activated, Superantispyware (Free version) and Malwarebytes (free version). My understanding was the last two did not use this technique.

SpywareBlaster maybe adds those?

Thanks YoKenny but this PC has never had SpywareBlaster on it. There is a slight chance it may have had Windows Defender on it for a very short time (or that may have been on the PC it replaced, it's hard to remember), but otherwise the only antispyware is as listed in my first post. There are 104 entries left unaccounted for after the 9300 odd SpybotSD entries have been identified.

Since my first post I have been able to rule out Superantispyware as well.

No, it uses signature protection.

SpybotSD, SpywareBlaster and Advanced Windows Care do that (immunization).
Zone Alarm, Superantispyware and Malwarebytes don't.
