Post by: benn1680 on December 11, 2008, 02:06:47 AM
I have installed the free edition of Avast on my PC, with a 32 bit Windows XP OS. Whenever I turn my PC on, I get an error message about MSVCR71.dll not found and the Avast icon has disapperead from the tray. What is this, and how do I fix it?

any help is greatly appreciated - thanks in advance

Hi...

You can download this file here...

http://www.dll-files.com/dllindex/pop.php?msvcr71

There is a instruction page that will show you how to unzip and install the file here...

http://www.dll-files.com/unzip.php

Although the page mentions a program called "ExpressZip," the Windows archive manager will work just fine. :)

Hope this helps. :)

May God Bless you! :)

I suggest a search of the forums for mscvr71 as you aren't the first to post about this.

Commonly the others were previously AVG users and it may be that on uninstalling it that mscvr71.dll file seems to go walkabout.

It is important to get the correct version of the file for your OS and SP version, etc.

So were you previously using AVG ?
