Title: "dcom exploit"
Post by: mkis on December 15, 2008, 05:22:31 AM
Three attacks from "Dcom exploit". I was reloading a Windows OS and only had Avast Home 2.7 edition for temporary protection. Updated once put computer to internet and the next morning I had messages that three attacks from "DCOM exploit" had been warded off. Is this an old virus instance or have I been targeted by current virus? Will test further.

Make sure your OS is patched and up to date.  Probably not since you're reloading your OS.

You could get a free program from Steve Gibson's site at GRC.com. This little program will test your PC to check it's vulnerable.  Here's a link:

Microsoft's DCOM security patch leaves DCOM running.

It will also stop further occurrences of DCOM.

Hey thanks. I just ran search in the forum and I seem to have found the leads I want. I'll look through them and see what I can work out. I think because I tried to load all I could on the system while away from the internet and maybe attack happened while updating the program. When I've finished looking things over, I'll uninstall and clean reload the current Avast version...

Thanks for the link. Looks good.
