Hi there Tech & all those who use ERUNT,
A few queries:
1. What exactly would be the usefulness of ERUNT.........if System registry gets corrupted one can inject a clean one from the backups made?
2. How can one one give the path for ERUNT folder to be some where else other than in C>Windows & regular backups in My Documents?
3. Vs Imaging, how is it better to restore if any thing goes wrong since the back up image contains the system registry too?
Thanks.

Is it Vista compatible too?
-
This might help answer some of your questions:
http://www.larshederer.homepage.t-online.de/erunt/erunt.txt
Are you using Vista or XP? I haven't used Erunt, but I have used another program they make called NTREGOPT. it worked good with XP but not so well with Vista. ( Vista would start doing weird things) after several tries I gave up.
Plus the fact it hasn't been updated since 2005 would give me pause as it wouldn't take into account Vista SP1 or XP SP3.
Update, it says it's vista compatible.

Thanks,
Am using it on XP MCE at the moment but was thinking of using it on Vista on my Dell XPS.

No problem, glad to help. Hopefully some others who have tried it on Vista can tell you more.

Restoration (if the backup was correct and complete) is complete and can help in case of System Restore failure or software uninstallation.
2. How can one one give the path for ERUNT folder to be some where else other than in C>Windows & regular backups in My Documents?
On the command-line, while starting the program.
3. Vs Imaging, how is it better to restore if any thing goes wrong since the back up image contains the system registry too?
On restoring images, you don't have to use ERUNT.
Is it Vista compatible too?
Fully.
Isn't NTREGOPT only for defragmenting the registry?
-
ERUNT and NTREGOPT work well with Vista, yes even with Vista 64 bit. Obviously you need to run them as an admin or else they won't work. Used both for years and have never failed me. Here, check out if MS considers them compatible. ;)
https://www.microsoft.com.nsatc.net/windows/compatibility/Details.aspx?type=Software&p=NTREGOPT&v=Lars%20Hederer&uid=1&pf=7&pi=1&c=Utilities&sc=PC%20Management&os=32-bit
@ Tech: Actually NTREGOPT doesn't "defrag" your registry. What it actually does is it recreates each registry hive and what that does is it removes any gaps(blank spaces) that were left over by previously modified or deleted keys and that makes the registry smaller. That's why i always say it's completely safe to use since it doesn't change the contents of the registry. :)
EDIT: To clarify further, this method is called registry compacting and as i said it doesn't physically defrag the registry files, you need someting like PageDefrag for that(or any other decent defrag with boot-time defrag option). I use PerfectDisk myself and that one defrags the registry hives, mft, metadata etc etc. You name it, it defrags it. ;D
-
You need someting like PageDefrag for that
Does not work on Vista... :'(
-
Yeah i know and i don't understand why they can't(or are not willing to) make it Vista compatible. Like i said i use PerfectDisk myself and that one takes care of the registry fragmentation. I think Ultra Defrag should be able to take care of it since it has a boot time defrag option but i am just not sure. I'll look into it.
In the mean time you can try it for yourself.

Asked the developer, yes it does defrag it and also the pagefile and hibernation files get taken care off ... :)
EDIT: That was one fast reply ... ;D
-
I use PD Pro 2008 too........Does it defrag registry too?
So ERUNT is Vista compatible?
Thanks darth_mikey.
-
Yezinki no problem at all !
Now to answer both of your questions, it's a YES to both of them. :)
-
I tried ERUNT once on Vista, worked fine.....but on their site they don't say its Vista compatible?
Trying to slowly install & get my notebook ready.......besides Vista, Office 2007, installed Avast & PD 2008 till now
Thanks darth_mikey.
-
It indeed does say it works with Vista on their page, trust me it works flawlessly. Like i said just make sure to RUN IT AS ADMIN. Otherwise it won't work.

-
Extended ...
-
CS4 Extended is awesome....smart choice by a smart guy.
-
No need to flatter me so much, i do appreciate it but i don't consider myself smarter than anyone else here. I just know a few things that's all ...
Stick around the forum and read read read, you'll learn there are quite a few "smart" people here, you can learn much from them. I won't name them cause there are alot of them. You'll find out on your own who they are. :)
PS CS4 is ÜBER GOOD yes i agree ... ;D
Now let's try to stick to the topic OK ? ;)

One step before this can I give it this path > C:\Documents and Settings\Vaio\My Documents\ERUNT...... instead of the default C:\Program Files\ERUNT?
Thanks!
-
It's not flattering its trying to be helpful, sharing one's experiences & promptness.
Smart in a good way with above average IQ.
-
Well you can but you need to select it when you install the program. So reinstall and select the desired folder when it asks you for it.
-
Thanks darth_mikey.....shall keep ya informed.

http://www.larshederer.homepage.t-online.de/erunt/erunt.txt
As I've posted before or elsewhere, use the command line:
ERUNT DestinationFolder [sysreg] [curuser] [otherusers] [/noconfirmdelete] [/noprogresswindow]
-
@ Tech: He just wants it installed in a different folder and he can select where the backups are saved through the GUI ...

I see... anyway he will have to do it each time... you can change the 'default' using the command-line.
-
Yeah you're right, i like that it has command line options for automating tasks, thumbs up for this. ERUNT is one of those programs that i couldn't live without, a true gem. :)
-
It's nice to see that this excellent program is still around and still being developed:

It was good back then and even better now. :)

Mr.Tech how do I change the command line......tried a few times but failed.
I want all folders to be placed in My Documents?
Thanks.
-
What folders ?
-
Folders of ERUNT installation.
-
That is not what those command line options are for, like i said if you want ERUNT installed in a different folder you will have to REINSTALL the program and when it asks you WHERE SHOULD ERUNT BE INSTALLED select the folder you want.

Thanks darth_mikey!
