Post by: shamuntoha on December 18, 2008, 11:37:18 AM
I installed avast 4.8 server edition (http://www.avast.com/eng/download-server-edition.html).
And start avast > from desktop icon.

Senario 1:
- It asked me to reboot or reboot later, i select reboot later

Senario 2:
- From desktop icon, double click and open the avast

Senario 3:
- then the splash screen appear (avast 4.8)
- showing splash screen
[application cannot read license file.]        [ registration button ]
[wait. please. testing memory and startup items ]     [stop memory test button]

Senario 4:
- After waiting 2, 3 minutes click registration button

Senario 5:
- While remotely connected/ operating
- Now no inputs are executing in server

What should be the solution now.!!! i need to urgent work..

So, you installed avast!, installation asked for restart; you didn't restart - and started avast! immediatelly, without restarting first?

From begin till now Vnc connected (i can only see the desktop and avast splash screen, cant do anything else). Still counting the maximum time freez time of avast, it down the server all services.

- it stop our webserver, pop, smtp.
- it down vnc, remote desktop services
- only giving ping reply feedbacks.

only waiting for physical reboot now, need to drive POP located in another country.! is there any other solution guys ?

Well, if you haven't rebooted the server after the installation, no kernel components of avast are loaded yet (in fact, no components at all) so I'm reluctant to believe that we can be responsible for crashing/freezing the system, really...

Thanks for your feedback.

In this issue as myself a developper i belive product like avast while using as customer phase we compare it with norton, macafee, like all worlds largest distributors, and then we put 100% confidence back on avast as the top class software still now.

But in reality this is just a disaster and reduce my confidence and my team.

It should not crack down a running server without promting "as advised to reboot, so it will not execute now, exit next modules".

hope you can put some issue for next developement, its not that big job for c/c++/java or Alp coding part, because its not also documented else where, what you just explained..

Many thanks.
Best regards
