Title: Definition of commercial use
Post by: whistle on January 04, 2009, 03:39:35 AM
I've used Avast! on my home machines for years, and when I started building machines for a few friends, I'd send them home with Avast!. I'm moving toward making my computer work into an actual side-business. Can I continue to put Avast! on machines I build/work on that are being used in a home/non-business application or will this qualify as commercial use necessitating a charge for a commercial license??

Hi...

While I have a guess, I don't want to give you the wrong information on this. Unless another forum member (who knows for sure) or Alwil staff member posts here, probably the best suggestion would be to send an e-mail to the "sales" address located here...

Hope this helps. :)

May God Bless you!

Thanks, will do. Didn't want to bother avast staff if a forum member had the skinny on it. :)

Hi whistle
Commercial use simply means that the computer that has avast! installed on it is used commercially and therefore
requires a commercial license.
As long as the computers that you're installing avast! on aren't used for commercial use, it's perfectly ok to install the
home version.  If your customer should then decide to use this computer in his business, it will then be his/her
responsibility to acquire the proper license.
Welcome to the forum.  :)

Click here (http://www.avast.com/eng/av4_version_comp.html) to see the differences between avast Home & Professional versions.

There is an article Define commercial in the sense of non-commercial use of avast! Home Edition? in our knowledgebase written by our sales team.

Define commercial in the sense of non-commercial use of avast! Home Edition?
"Commercial", using our definition, would define ANY work done for a commercial aim (money is not the issue, nor is profit so, for instance, non-profit charity work would be commercial in nature.)

Hobbies would be considered home use; except where such hobby is running a commercial business (again, money and profit are not relevant to the definition.)
