Title: Avast Removed Virus but Caused New Problem
Post by: sschone on January 18, 2009, 03:57:02 AM
Avast found and isolated many instances of a virus called win32:sality-gen. But now Windows continually tries to Unload programs and suggest I find varioius ".msi" files which are not on my my hard drive or disks.

Message: "Error 1706. No valid source could be found for product unload. The Windows installer cannot continue."

These are some of the paths it's trying to reach. I assume the virus scan removed them.

c:\hp\tmp\src\setup\UnloadIntent\
c:\hp\tmp\src\setup\AiOSoftwarenpi\
c:\hp\tmp\src\setup\PSPrinters08\

I can hardly work with these dialogue boxes popping up constantly. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Looks like you'll have to reformat and reinstall Windows. So, back up all your data before reformatting and reinstalling your OS.

Win32:Sality-gen is a dangerous polymorphic file infector.

Take care.

From what i can see your HP AiO multifuntion device software is broken. Try removing all existing HP software and re-install it.
This should fix the above thingie. If that doesn't work you can try integrated Repair function that is usually included in .msi installers.
