I think they will only continue to use generic signatures and algorithmic detections, besides the mail heuristic scanning.

Hello, there are many users in China that the 5.0 version of avast will join the heuristic antivirus technology or defense technology initiative, I do not know Alwil have any plans?

Please, define:

heuristic antivirus technology

defense technology initiative

What exactly are you talking about?

I think he/she wants to know of version 5 will have heuristics or proactive defense/HIPS technology included in the release.

I understand that users call for better detection or for better detection of unknown samples - but heuristics? How would you know if we just say: "avast has heuristics" and didn't change anything. Would that be enough for you?

Ad that is it, ad. You could have but you don't say so... so users ask for it...

For us probably not, but for the average user yes ;)

there are some algorithmic detections, which could be called Win32:Anything-heur, but that's the blur edge of the dedicated algo / general heuristics...

We will go in circles... which is heuristic here?

Also those tagged as [Cryp] also fall under this to some degree...

RejZoR: but when we rename the detections to contain an -heur suffix, will the users be really satisfied? the heuristics should be scalable and turnable on and off (and produce proportional results).. that's only possible to code into new engine..

They say: heurisitics is the analysis of generic malware code from different families of malware.
So, in this meaning, avast generic signatures are heuristic, imho.

Mmm...
Is guesswork on the part of a human analyst creating the latest avast! vps the same as 'guesswork' by the program itself - and therefore 'heuristic'?

Lukor? Maxx_original?
