Ok so I just switched to avast home from avg free, however the annoying red shield has come up. I am running windows vista x64. I checked the system day month and year and it is correct. I also tried deleting the repository folder in my wbem directory and letting it regenerate. Still stupid red shield. What could I be missing gais?

which VPS version is installed?
did you already restart your computer?
how did you remove avg?

Hi,
I started vista in safe mode and used the uninstall for avg under the control panel.
I have restarted now numerous times:T
I am using VPS version: 090128-0
I just ran the following .bat file to force refresh the repository and rebooted:
echo off
cls
echo.
echo Stopping Windows Management Service - please wait ...
net stop winmgmt
echo.
echo.
echo Removing Repository folder - please wait ...
rd /S /Q %systemroot%\system32\wbem\Repository
echo.
echo.
echo Starting Windows Management Service - please wait ...
net start winmgmt
cls
echo.
echo Done!
Now the genius security center says I am not running ANY anti virus-_-
I also just ran through regedit looking for things related to avg. I found a few entries and promptly deleted them. So kind of avg to clean up after themselves when running their uninstall utility.

So I went ahead and uninstalled avast.
I then re-installed avg free. I then ran the avg setup again and uninstalled through there.
Next I went and cleaned my registry again.
I then re-installed avast home again.
Now it at least recognizes I have avast however it still says it is out of date.
So I am back to square one.

This is a bit of a long shot but worth a crack. AVG provides an uninstall utility - it's not straightforward to find on their site - but here it is http://www.avg.com/download-tools (http://www.avg.com/download-tools) the second one down, in your case. Might be worth going through all the steps to reinstall Avast to make it effective. (Uninstall Avast, run the Avast uninstall utility http://www.avast.com/eng/avast-uninstall-utility.html (http://www.avast.com/eng/avast-uninstall-utility.html), reboot, run the AVG uninstaller, install Avast afresh.) Good luck.
[edit] typo.

Thank you! I will give this a try!
-Well its still there. Its says avast is telling the security center it is out of date. WTF this is so bs.
Thank you for trying to help me guys. I guess I am one of those users that gets to live wif a retarded bug that neither company will probably ever acknowledge much less find a fix for. w00t.

Sometimes these things come right on their own, maybe with some restarts, but more often due to some unknown.
Good luck.

I went ahead and put security center into the yellow mode where I monitor it myself. Maybe after a few avast and ms updates things will start working well.
