Title: non-outlook user
Post by: undrdog on February 01, 2009, 06:14:22 AM
Hi Folks

I just installed the home version 4.8.  I'm running winders XP pro

I don't use outlook or IE (except IE on rare occasions when a site won't work with firefox).

Should I terminate the Outlook / Exchange provider?  "the provider is waiting for a subsystem to start".  Is this using resources or should I just let it be?

On instant messaging, I use mIRC, but none of the other chat programs listed.  Do I gain anything by messing with those settings or should I just let it be?

Thanks!

mike

Welcome to the avast! forums!

IE (like other browsers ... for example Firefox) is covered by the WebShield and Network Shield and is not connected with the Outlook/Exchange provider.

If you never use Microsoft Outlook then you are perfectly free to terminate the Outlook/Exchange provider (even though it will save you nothing to speak of in terms of resources).

In the Instant Messaging provider ... similar story ... if you use none of the services covered then feel free to terminate it  ... but again it will save you precious little in resources.
