Title: Virus found - not a Virus
Post by: briton on May 01, 2004, 03:58:01 PM: avast! 4.1 Home Build 4.1.396 VPS 0418-4 (which I believe makes it all up to date). Running in WinXPProSP1a.

I was copying some files from a CD when avast! identified a virus. So I rebooted into Win98SE where I have McAfee installed (up to date) and checked the file with that. No problem, no virus.

Now that didn't surprise me as the file is an Intel display driver file on the Win98SE install CD!

The file (and path) on the Win98SE setup CD is:

\drivers\display\intel\i810\i81xghlp.exe

I haven't completed a virus report as I am pretty certain this is NOT a virus.

Any ideas why I should be getting this warning from avast! ?

More importantly, how do I work with it without avast! stopping me (and without deactivating avast!)?

Yes, thanks Mac. The trouble is that I have to exclude it each time I move or copy it, but that's ok too ::)

Oops! Sorry - I forgot to post that. It was Win95:SK

(Having trouble sending that file as an attachment but not an AV problem I think)

Could be...
Can you zip the file in a password archive file and send both (the zip file and the password) to Alwil?
Maybe you have check avast to scan Outbound Mail and avast does not allow sending the virus file...

Well, I already sent it. Entire, not zipped, not passworded. Is that OK? Or should I send it again in the form you suggest?
