Title: wuauclt.exe
Post by: z-vet on May 01, 2004, 11:30:52 PM
Hi,all.
I found a process called wuauclt.exe,and tried to find something about in Google search.I get two results and both are very strange:
http://www.liutilities.com/products/wintaskspro/processlibrary/wuauclt/ (http://www.liutilities.com/products/wintaskspro/processlibrary/wuauclt/) - it was no problem if i had a WindowsMe installed,but i have Windows XP.
http://www.sophos.com/virusinfo/analyses/trojcultb.html (http://www.sophos.com/virusinfo/analyses/trojcultb.html) - saying it is a trojan,but firewall and avast! both have no problem with it.
I have Windows XP SP2 RC1 installed and automatic updates are on.I can believe that the process is automatic updates,but wtf sophos are talking about?

Hi,

it's also found legally in XP and 2000:
http://www.reger24.de/prozesse/wuauclt.exe.php

 Windows Update Client (comes with ServicePack 3 for Windows 2000).
Also found in Windows ME and Windows XP...

check the file with Onlinescanners from Trend & KAV (see below) and www.ravantivirus.com

you could also run a system file check with
start -> Run -> SFC /scanonce [Return]

first: right-click the file, and see if the properties, version info and dates/size sound ok..
