Post by: .: L' arc :. on February 28, 2009, 04:21:43 PM
-= I just downloaded a file as a bachground music for our play.. but I felt weird when media player asks me if I really want to play the file.. So I sent it to VirusTotal & found out that it was a virus according to 9 antiviruses [avira, nod32,bitdefender, gdata, eTrust, Rising, Sophos, Gateway]

-= Just reply if you want a copy of the file..

Can you send the file to virus (at) avast (dot) com for analysis?
It seems strange if not really infected.

I would suggest always send undetected files to avast, even though they should be passed to Alwill by VirusTotal, this is likely to get to Alwil sooner.

Send the sample to virus@avast.com zipped and password protected with the password in email body, a link to this topic might help and undetected malware in the subject.

Or you can also add the file to the User Files (File, Add) section of the avast chest (if it isn't already there) where it can do no harm and send it from there. A copy of the file/s will remain in the original location, so you will need to take further action and can remove/rename that.

Send it from the User Files section of the chest (select the file, right click, email to Alwil Software). It will be uploaded (not actually emailed) to avast when the next avast auto (or manual) update is done.

It is sent in the next virus database update. You can manually update avast now to force the file to be sent.

-= Thanks..
You're welcome.
Side note: as my personal opinion, why should both actions be related, update a file and vps update is beyond my comprehension.

-= I just got the update.. Still not detected.. Maybe they already marked it as a false positive..
