Could someone tell me exactly how to run my avast! as root so that it can have access to all the files being listed in the report as "Permission Denied"? ::) Thanks!!!!

Don't!
Just scan /home.
You could damage your system.
Be careful when you enter your root password and root will be fine. (In a year and a half of using Ubuntu, I haven't actually come across a Linux virus, but just in case.)

I know that the chances are slim to none of having a virus in my Ubuntu, but I still run occasionally when I suspect that there's the slightest chance of something. ::) So far nothing, and I'm confident that's the way it will continue to be. Thanks for the reply! ;D
