Title: Running 2 AV Progs is Bad, right?
Post by: bizadi on March 03, 2009, 11:12:09 PM
My license for ESET Smart Security (includes NOD32 AV scanner) expires in 6 days.  I have been reading a lot about avast! and finally decided to pull the trigger and d/l Home 4.8.  No problems with the Typical install and the boot scan was fine.  I tried disabling ESET's antivirus & antispyware protection and had avast! enabled but then I could not access the internet  - IE 7 "This page cannot be displayed" message.  I then re-enabled Smart Security disabled avast! and can now reach the web.

I know that it is generally a bad idea to have 2 AV programs running simultaneously so should I just go ahead and uninstall ESET Smart Security at this time?  I also need to find a firewall and was thinking about trying Online Armor (http://www.tallemu.com/free-firewall-protection-software.html).

WinXP Pro SP3 btw.

I've found ESET's instructions for manually removing -

Yes, uninstall ESET before both antivirus block your system and conflict...
Online Armor is a good choice for firewall nowadays.

"Better" than Comodo?  A lot of people have been recommending Comodo but I had some problems with it a few years ago.

I think so. More stable.

Download Online Armor Here (http://www.download.com/Online-Armor/3000-10435_4-10426782.html?tag=lst-1&cdlPid=10831167)
It's works good for me & it's seems lite on resources. 8)

Thanks - I'm up & running with avast! 4.8 & Online Armor.  Buh-bye NOD32/ESET Smart Security - it was fun while it lasted.
