Hi--
I have two 120 GB HDD's on my system--one Ghosted to the other for backup. I have +/- 50 GB of music files.
If I scan all HDD's--it's a good 6-8 hours. Obviously there's no point in scanning the music files over and over.
What files really need to be scanned on a regular basis? I have Resident Protection set to Standard.
Thanks...
BTW this is my system:

i guess you can skip the ghosted backup and your music files..they should be fine...and set your resident protection to high
-
Perhaps the only time the "Ghosted" harddrive would need scanning would be if and when a virus is found on the primary harddrive. :)

Charley--
Good point! :-\
My logic--possibly flawed--would be to do the scan before the backup.
So--the backup would be clean--or am I missing something?

obviously true ;D
-
What's obvious?
That I'm missing something...?
-
I think SHGOH means that it would be obvious that the "Ghost" drive would be clean since you are doing backups after scanning the primary harddrive. :D
Still, if it were me and I found a problem on the primary drive, I would probably scan the "Ghost" drive also ... just for my own reassurance. :)

CharleyOh--
Thanks.
Makes sense to me.

No problem, shgoh ...glad to help! :D

Hi Again--
By using the Folder scan instead of "All Local Disks" I've got the scan time down to a reasonable time--5GB scan eliminating the music files.
But it seems I have to reconfigure the folder scan each time I run it--checking all those little boxes--except "My Music." Is there a way to save the folder setting?
Also I notice the "Date of Last Scan" doesn't seem to update when I use the Folder Scan. Is there a way to change this so it updates?
-
add it to the exclusion list...open avast main program...go to menu...settings...exclusions
if i'm not wrong...the date don't change until you do a full scan...
just try adding your music to exclusion list and do a full scan..and you never have to configure it again
-
good and clear answer shgoh.
-
Thanks.
That did it.
