Title: Can't remove Norton N Protect exe files
Post by: 212008894 on March 10, 2009, 10:02:06 PM
I had removed Norton antivirus from my computer (I thought) and installed Avast home program.  When I look in the add / remove programs, I am not seeing any Norton programs.

However the following is happening:

1:  When I am in my yahoo email and try to download a file, Norton Antivirus automatically is coming up to scan the attachment
2:  I have done complete scans and I keep seeing:    - Recycle:  Norton N Protect.exe files   How can I get rid of these ... not visible in the recycle bin.

1) Remove NAV or Norton 360 through Add/Remove programs from Control Panel. Boot.
Also search the Add/Remove entries of Symantec and LiveUpdate.
2) Use Norton Removal Tool for Windows 2000/XP/Vista (http://fileforum.betanews.com/detail/Norton_Removal_Tool_for_Windows_2000XPVista/1169144666/1) or Norton Removal Tool for Windows 98/Me (http://fileforum.betanews.com/detail/Norton_Removal_Tool_for_Windows_98Me/1169144666/2). Boot.
3) Install avast! (or repair the installation) and boot.

The Norton Removal Tool uninstalls all Norton 2008/2007/2006/2005/2004/2003 products and Norton 360 from your computer.

A bit of info here:  Yahoo! uses NAV to scan all attachments that one attempts to download...  There is nothing, or should be nothing Norton related on your computer based on downloading from Yahoo!  ;)
