Ardamax is a question without answer.. it can be easily abused, but it is clean itself... is it white? black? gray? and what to do with it?

Several of us have in Mr.Agent previous posts about it.

It is a legitimate tool which can be used for malicious purposes. The user if they installed it legitimately have nothing to fear, if they didn't install it then there is a possibility that is is malicious or the administrator is keeping an eye on what users are doing.

Why do we constantly have to repeat ourselves the reasons given have nothing to do with what 'other' AVs have chosen to do, as has been said I don't know how many times, avast used to detect it but it was removed as it is a legitimate program and in itself isn't malware/spyware.

The fact that it can be misused or abused is neither here not there, avast can't detect intent, is it being used for good or evil.

-= It may be clean but it still pose a threat so why don't avast add it to its detections as "Ardamax - Possible threat"

Do you mean we'll have an option to detect tools, possible unwanted software?

Tech: we want to make some scaling, including the PUP category (turned off by default)

Yeah, I hope so too. Also keep in mind that this is a bit odd for Avast. We usually get incremental upgrades and now we are going from 4.8 strait to 5.0.  ;D

-= Previous avast editions passes the .9 update before going to the next edition..?

I won't worry about .8 .9 versions... avast 5 is being prepared since a long time ago. Some of the last .8 updates were an antecipation of some 5 version. It's a big step, but it's being prepared for more than one year...

-= 3 to 4 months before release.. So in that case would they still release a 4.8.xxxx version..?

I think it will be done in one fell swoop with no intermediate builds.

It would entirely depend on the reason for an update anything critical would I guess be released in the current version as has happened in the past (avast 5 was in development then too) rather than simply be added to version 5.

However, no one one the forums other than Alwil staff could possibly answer that question with any degree of certainty (just what has happened in the past).

If necessary, even after the 5 version release, during some time, could have updates to version 4.
