Using avast! Home 4.8.1229 under Windows XP Home -- is it possible to set avast! up so that the AV defs update only on Mondays? If I manually run an update on a Monday and then set the update frequency to 7 days in minutes, will it work? or how? THX JLJ

Hmmm... why would you dismiss the daily updates? I will be much less protected...
But it seems possible. The minor update time for Home version is 120 minutes, afaik.

I think you need all the help you can get with updates as your program (version 4.8.1335 is the latest) version is out of date ;D
-
LOL. Unfortunately, I tried updating .1229 and later versions kept crashing on boot. Until I can figure out why, I'll stick with it. In any event, I have my reasons. THX JLJ

That may well be your problem, if the errorcode indicates an out of date Program version (I have seen that in another topic), I don't know how to get round that.
-
There is no error code, there are no errors. Everything works perfectly. I just want to know if avast! can be set up update a/v defs (only) automatically on Mondays.

Version 1229 has update problems afaik. Using the 1335 is advisable. Maybe we can help you troubleshoot it's installation. Maybe you should try an installation from the scratch:
1. Uninstall avast from Control Panel first.
2. Boot.
3. Download the latest version of Avast Uninstall (http://www.avast.com/eng/avast-uninstall-utility.html) and use it for complete uninstallation.
4. Boot.
5. Install again the latest avast! (http://www.avast.com/eng/programs.html) version.
6. Boot.
7. Check and post the results.

I'm afraid Tech has answered that, this isn't available on the home version. I'm not even sure if it is possible with the Pro version.

Sticking with 1229 for now, I just updated today (Monday) and have set an auto-update interval of 10080 (7 days in minutes, IIRC). We'll see. JLJ

Well my auto update interval is set to the default, but every time I connect the first update will be done, if I remain on-line for 240 minutes it will check again, so I fear this won't work.
I'm on dial-up which complicates it further as when I disconnect, that interval begins again and when I reconnect it checks again. So if you aren't on dial-up this may not be an issue, however unless you leave your computer on 24/7 the interval would I believe reset on reboot.

I'm not even sure if it is possible with the Pro version.
No, it's not due to the same limitations you've posted (24/7, no reboot...).
Oh... I see a solution on Pro version. Set the update to manual and schedule an update on Mondays... the Pro version has a scheduler.
