Title: Licence Price.
Post by: Arnak on April 19, 2009, 08:32:03 PM
Hi,

I am due to renew my licence shortly for my copy of Avast 4 Pro.

When I went to the licensing page I was surprised to see that I would be charged VAT at 19%.

Why would this be as I am in the UK and the VAT is 15%

If the licence site is in the USA and the VAT is a local tax why do I need to pay it as I am not a USA resident?

Thanks,

Arnak

I don't know where the tax liability is determined.

I don't know if this would be Europe based in which case VAT would be at the rate of the country of sale and the Czech Republic is in the EU and I don't know what their VAT rate is.

Contact sales (at) avast (dot) com and ask for clarification, whilst your at it, ask about renewal discount as there used to be one (won't hurt to ask).

Hi Pondus,

Thanks for the info.

I gave up after trawling through 15 sites!

They either don't have Avast or they do not show it on the web pages, the one I did find just took me back to the Avast
licensing page at the same price.8-((

The Online store still lists United Kingdom at 19% Tax/VAT.  And I wouldn't like to trying reclaiming the difference back after purchase.

Randomly selecting five countries didn't fluctuate tax %.

Well, the rate was 19% until the end of the last year, it's 20% now in the Czech Republic. So, the web page appears kinda outdated. Other than that, there's really no way around it. For refunds/deductions info, see here (http://ec.europa.eu/taxation_customs/taxation/vat/traders/vat_refunds/index_en.htm).
