The first time I tried to run the Oxford English Dictionary (OED) after I loaded Avast, I got an out of memory error when i tried to search.
OED help site thinks Avast interference may be the problem. The recommended that I unload Avast to run OED--not an option, obviously. They also suggested that I add the OED authentication component and the OED folder to the Avast "Trusted Zone." I tried this, by changing the "Exclusions" settings.
Still have the problem.
Any ideas?

Hi, and welcome to the forum.
Did you have any other antivirus on the machine before Avast? And how was it uninstalled?
What are your computer specs (OS, RAM, CPU.)

If you had Norton, did you use the norton removal tool?
If you had AVG, did you use the AVG removal tool?
If you had other anti-viruses, did you use the proper removal tool?

There is no reason for avast to do that... avast only scans and shouldn't mess the memory management of OED.
Any other security program installed that could interfere?
