Title: avast with updated win 7 RC 64 bit
Post by: treasure108 on May 31, 2009, 10:58:29 PM
upon windows startup a message comes up that this operating system has been upgraded and avast will not work and it needs to be reinstalled. however no amount of reinstalling will make it work.  any thoughts on this fault?

Hi treasure108!

I suggest the following:
Please uninstall avast! via the control panel.
Download and run the avast! uninstall utility (http://avast.com/eng/avast-uninstall-utility.html).
Download a new avast! installation file (http://avast.com/eng/download-avast-home.html) and run it (install avast!).
I hope it works now.  :)

tried that, didn't work.  after additional experimenting discovered that avast only works on win 7 rc 64 bit when installed and run using vista compatability mode.  winxp and win7 modes will not work.  i suppose this will be rectified in a future upgrade.  thank you for your suggestion anyway.

On my systems (both 32bit and 64bit versions of Windows 7) avast! works without any problems...

I can't imagine that the compatability mode changes anything in this case...

But the most important thing is that it works for you. :)

I'm using Avast Home on my Win 7 64-bit machine without problems.
