when avast updates itself does it automatically delete the previous updates or are they all in a file and need to be manually deleted

-= Updates are cumulative, avast only download the not-yet-downloaded files so, nothing to delete..

Updates are incremental, cumulative and automatic. No housekeeping needed ;)
