Did you enter the beta program (setup)? If so, it's ok.

From the startup page displayed the first time you opened this version after it was updated, either automatically or manually by you with Help > Check for Updates.  Emphasis added by me. http://en-us.www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/3.5b99/whatsnew/

Welcome to the Firefox 3.5 Preview…

Thank you for helping test this preview of Firefox 3.5! As a member of our beta user audience, you have received this update to help us test this preview before it becomes the Firefox 3.5 release candidate. You will be updated to the release candidate automatically when it is released.

It's beta 99 instead of beta 5 because the Mozilla team is determined that it will be the last beta before RC1 is released.

I think because it is getting very close to an RC version, which I believe is due this month (soon).

Edit: As confirmed by Alan ;D
That will teach me to have several topics on the go at once ;D

No, it's not the RC.  It's the last beta.  One or more RCs will follow after more bugs are fixed in this release.  It's provided to you so you can test it and provide feedback to the developers.  Please send your "Crashy" feedback to them, using the feedback button provided in this page. http://en-us.www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/3.5b99/whatsnew/

-= Yes, I second, 3.10 is a LOT more stable than this "beta-RC" Firefox.. The "beta-RC" is, undoubtedly, fast but, it doesn't seem to be multi-tabbing friendly & closing tabs from youtube frequently causes a crash..
