Title: Reinstalled Avast - VPS not updating
Post by: epp on June 12, 2009, 02:43:24 AM
Avast was removed and reinstalled to fix an unrelated Windows problem.  However after the installation, the VPS is not updating, in fact, the software is providing conflicting information.

When manually running an update, the results show:

Information about current update:
Total time: 26 s

- Vps: Already up to date
  (current version 090611-0)

Server: a665sm.avast.com (70.85.97.146)
Downloaded files: 2 (0.02 KB)
Download time: 5 s

Yet when I open the Simple User Interface, it displays the "Current version of virus database" as:  090607-0, 06/07/09.  The information under Help/About Avast also shows the same 06/07/09 information.

When an e-mail is scanned, the information shows:

I've seen your other threads, too and without bieing sure I'm inclined to think the next step would be to do a full uninstall/clean/reinstall from scratch.
Use the Avast Uninstall Utility (http://www.avast.com/eng/avast-uninstall-utility.html)after uninstalling/before installing afresh.
If that doesn't work, probably need to know the nature of the unrelated Windows problem. In my (fairly limited) experience, when you're talking Windows, it's never safe to assume anything is unrelated.

The unrelated Windows issue was HP printer software (something that also loads at startup).

Try a repair of avast. Add Remove programs, select 'avast! Anti-Virus,' click the Change/Remove button and scroll down to Repair, click next and follow. This has been known to resolve these out of sync version issues.
