Title: Need Help! Detection Problme with Avast 4.8
Post by: 0139930057 on June 21, 2009, 02:49:14 AM
Hello there,

I had upgraded my Avast to Avast 4.8. It shows an on-access message saying there's an infected file in blah blah blah but didn't take any action. I had to scan again manually to re-detect the virus before clean it. Why is this happening?

Please help me..

Welcome to the forum

So you have on-access message an infected file has been detected but you are offered no options?

Can you give more details? How and where is the message presented. Is it not an alert? Is it presented in a log?

Hi 0139930057,

And welcome to the forum.

It shows an on-access message saying there's an infected file in blah blah blah but didn't take any action.

Blah blah blah doesn't mean anything. The answer could be that all you have to do is blah blah blah....

Apologies if this seems mean.

But please fill in the blah blah. Also if possible mention what other security programs you have on your computer.

Cheers

Can you say what is the infected file name, where was it found (C:\windows\system32\infected-file-name.xxx)?
What avast! version and virus database are you using? (see About dialog of avast!)

a yellow bar pop-ups above the clock in taskbar (i set the settings to show up when virus detected) but i didnt shown any option to delete.

I'm using Avast FEB2009 (4.8.1335).

just now i inserted my pendrive and the mesage pops up again but still i had to do manual scan.

i'll take a snapshot the next time i saw it

Check the avast logs to see what was detected.
Right click the 'a' blue icon > Log Viewer.
Probably on Warning section.

-= Its an autorun, I guess.. Try Autorun Eater.. (http://download.cnet.com/Autorun-Eater/3000-2239_4-10752777.html)

Let your USB drive plugged and run Autorun Eater (http://www.softpedia.com/get/Security/Secure-cleaning/Autorun-Eater.shtml) or Flash Disinfector (http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/sUBs/Flash_Disinfector.exe), allowing them to clean up all drives. They would create hidden folders named autorun.inf in each partition and every USB drive plugged in when you ran it. These folders protect your drives from future infection. After that, reboot your computer.
