Hi, its my first time on here. i need some help.
I keep getting a virus alert ( Win32:Gaobot-218 [Wrm] ) I've tried deleting it through avast and manually. as its in C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents but it keeps restoring itself. Any ideas how to get rid of it?

That's the beauty of windowsXP, delete something and windows system restore saves it so it can be restored later if you need it.

First disable system restore, that will delete the entire content of System Volume Information (so you won't be able to recover to a restore point), this is not a thing to mess with, but is necessary to eliminate a virus (this instruction is given by the major AV companies to remove a virus when using WindowsXP).

Once you have done that, you can run the virus check again and hopefully it will be removed and will not return on reboot. After sucessful removal you can enable System Restore.

If you don't know how to disable/enable 'System Restore',  do a search for it in Windows Start (button), Help and Support.
