Title: curious about avast! virus cleaner
Post by: chameleon on May 23, 2004, 01:45:22 PM
Hello All,

I am curious about all the options we have when a virus is found.

If the avast! virus cleaner can provide disinfection for a particular virus, is it better to wait and use the cleaner or just to proceed straight to delete/repair/move to chest.?

This little point has always confused me a bit, but then I guess that the cleaner has repairing functions that the other options don't..?

Of course, you should use the cleaner if it's possible to do so (there is the 'Completely remove the virus' button).

It provides much thorougher cleaning actually -- including registry keys, temp files etc.etc. It should basically undo everything the virus has done, moving your computer to the state before infection...

hello, thanks for your quick reply.  :)

So, the "completely remove the virus" button hooks up the virus cleaner?

I have never noticed the "completely remove the virus" button , which I assume  is different from delete. Is it a feature of the professional version only?

Or maybe in my fluster I just have not seen it..I will look out for it next time.

You'll get this message only if specific virus/worm is detected (the one which is on the Virus Cleaner detection list) for all others you may use normal clean functions.

Ah! I see! Thankyou for the explanation. I usually use the cleaner afterward. That is very helpful to know.
