Title: Can't Watch Videos On YouTube
Post by: BRANDONN2008 on August 18, 2009, 11:12:14 PM
I am using Firefox and NoScript, and for some reason when I go to YouTube, it says Flash is outdated or blocked or something, even though it's not. I installed the latest Flash and it still doesn't work. Also, what are the odds of getting a virus from watching YouTube videos?

may be you are not used to noscript.

Flash isn't blocked by default in NoScript I believe, but I disable flash because on dial-up it is a killer, see image of my settings. That does block flash, but you should get a placeholder that you can click on to override the block.

Youtube and other social networking sites are at a higher risk of infection.

I can't recall what the default settings are (as I mentioned), I have made many tweaks to the settings. There is no way I'm going to use the reset button (just out of curiosity) as that reverts everything, site permissions, all preferences and it can't be restored.

As I said even if it is enabled it is easy to resolve it, either by clicking on the flash placeholder or by allowing scripts for the site.

If it is just ads then I wouldn't worry about allowing these as it shouldn't stop the rest of the youtube stuff from working. I'm surprised if it relies on allowing ads before it will work, just another reason why I keep away from youtube, facebook, etc. I hate ads.

Where are the ads on youtube?

yming.com seems to be where the videos are hosted - as said, nothing plays without allowing it hmm......
