Title: Avast For Home Free Has Suddenly Quit
Post by: dford3772 on September 05, 2009, 03:02:37 AM
The System Tray icon will not open though it says it is running and it does not turn.  I can open the memory test in Programs but the scan will go no further. Since I can't right click it I can't find out if it updated today.  I am running 4.8.1335 on Vista Premium 32 bit.

I've never had this happen before.  In fact I've been trouble free for ages.  I did run an MBAM scan first but it found nothing.

What do I need to do?

The latest version is 4.8.1351.

What else has changed on your system recently ?
What avast processes are running in Task Manager, they begin with ash or asw, see image ?

Try a repair of avast. Add Remove programs, select 'avast! Anti-Virus,' click the Change/Remove button and scroll down to Repair, click next and follow. This has in the past resolved this out of sync issue between reported and actual VPS version.

Hi David,
As I have so little trouble I did panic and did not think straight.  I re-started my PC and Avast came back up fine and updated to 1351 immediately.  I
ran a scan and all seems to be well for now.  Don't know if it was just hung somehow maybe on the update or what.  I'll keep a sharper eye on it
from now on.

Thanks for the quick reply.

Computers, they have a mind of their own ;D

It really is hard to say after the fact, especially since you didn't get any errors displayer (or rather you didn't mention any).

That's me for the night, just after 3a.m.
