Title: waiting for server to respond message
Post by: davem on May 31, 2004, 07:55:29 PM
This is the first time I'm writing this forum.  I'm using avast free version updated to 0422-1.  My question is when I set up mail virus protection, and attempt to send a large attachment I get the message "waiting for server to respond."  I only have the option to extend this to 5 min. in account - properties of outlook express.  When I disable the avast email protection this is not an issue.  I was wandering if there is some setting for avast email protection to be set to wait indefinitely.  I use juno as my dial-up and it is really a pain to continually click on wait.
I appreciate a response.

Have you cheecked your account settings, because they would have been changed to 127.0.0.1 on the server tab of your account properties and the username would also have see some subtle changes. If not the Mail Protection is not setup correctly.

Before going any further, you say you connect via a Juno dial-up, what type of email account do you use POP3 or web based, http mail?

I know that juno provide web mail but do they have regular pop3 mail? The reason I ask is avast doesn't provide support for web based email since it uses a different protocol. Any email you did download from a web based email server would be covered by the Standard Shield and not the Internet Mail provider.

I suggest you read the Setting up mail protection in the avast help file, windows start>programs>avast>help.

I'm using a juno pop3 account.  I'm not sure what subtle changes I should be looking for.  I greatly appreciate your reply!!!

Have a look at the 'Manual setting of Mail Protection' in the 'Setting up the Mail Protection' section of the help file.

In order for the Mail Protection provider to work with your email program it needs to change some of the settings in your email accounts.

I'm having to make an assumption here, you are using Outlook Express? If you look in tools>accounts (select one of your accounts)>Properties, here you will notice changes, click on the server tab you will see some of the changes I mentioned.

The error message, is it the standard message you may have received in OE before and not an Avast message?

After trying to send a message with a large attachment and getting this message, have you tried sending a test message to yourself with no attachment? Does it get through (or is the server still not responding).

Is there an upper limit to attachment size in Juno's email?
