Post by: iddawg717 on September 22, 2009, 10:43:23 AM
When i downloaded avast home edition and restarted my system I got a blue screen error.
I went into safe mode and uninstalled avast and no blue screen.
I have windows defender active so at least I do have some protection.
Please advise.
Thanking you ahead in this matter,

Did you run the Norton Removal tool, as suggested in your last thread?

Did not need to run the norton removal tool did not have any problems uninstalling norton.
Had to have some kind of security on the computer. When to Wal-mart today and purchased a disc.
I am a cosmetologist and I take appointments by e-mail. Could not wait if I had it meant loss of funds.
I have a years subscription right now. By then I will have updated to Windows 7 and will go from there. Please understand I harbor no hard feeling against any one here. But I had to do something.
I want to thank all who have helped me in the pass and I'll be back. So it not good bye just so long for now.
Again thank you.

Hi Don -

It is not if you had no problems uninstalling Norton or not. When uninstalling Norton through Add/remove Programs, not all of Norton is removed. What Norton leaves behind will cause problems for any other anti-virus program. So, even if you use some other av program, you still need to use the Norton removal tool.

Charley is right... you have a blue screen and it could be caused by Norton.

1) Remove NAV or Norton 360 through Add/Remove programs from Control Panel. Boot.
2) Use Norton Removal Tool for Windows 2000/XP/Vista (http://fileforum.betanews.com/detail/Norton_Removal_Tool_for_Windows_2000XPVista/1169144666/1) or Norton Removal Tool for Windows 98/Me (http://fileforum.betanews.com/detail/Norton_Removal_Tool_for_Windows_98Me/1169144666/2). Boot.
3) Install avast! (or repair the installation) and boot.

The Norton Removal Tool uninstalls all Norton 2008/2007/2006/2005/2004/2003 products and Norton 360 from your computer.
