Title: Is it possible to uninstall the latest Avast update?
Post by: GLH on October 14, 2009, 03:51:50 PM
I installed the latest Avast virus database update this morning, and soon afterward my McAfee Security Center started having problems. Is it possible to uninstall an Avast update? Not sure this will solve my McAfee problem, but seems like a logical first step in my troubleshooting.

I'm running Avast 4.8 with virus database version 091013-0 (as of this morning).

Thanks!

Hello GLH,

welcome to the forums.

Are you using two resident avs at the same time?  :o  ???

conflicts will occur.

I suggest you uninstall one of them.

I would uninstall mcafee, obviously.

i accept in layered defense but there is always ms security essentials which can be used in conjunction with avast. there are many users in here in the forums including me  8)

@ the OP: yeah I was gonna say too, how come you're running two AV at the same time, and from what it seems both resident. Do yourself a favor to avoid further issues, get rid of one of them  ;)

I know I probably shouldn't be running two AV :-[ but for the most part they don't step on each other, and the McAfee is a Total Protection product so it offers other things I need/want. But I prefer Avast AV so I've been using both on this computer since I got it almost a year ago.

I'm not familiar with ms security essentials...will have to check that out. Thanks!

You're lucky they didn't conflict since now.
If I were you I'll uninstall one of them asap.
