Some Windows 7 users complain 'I am stuck in limbo' when upgrading to the new OS.

I am going to find out today as I am going to rebuild my Vista capable system from scratch after I take backups of the data I want.
I'll be installing a new hard drive as primary and the old one as secondary then install Vista Home Premium and get it working then use the Windows 7 Home Premium upgrade that I can get from my local PC store that I purchase the system from.
-
I've now done over 30 installations of Windows 7 and am still waiting for the first problem.
It always helps to follow instructions and make sure that you don't have any incompatibilities before you update. :)

This has to do with the student version and it has now been fixed.

I think this is like any upgrade or change of the Windows system. I will wait at least a month (probably 3 or 4 months) before installing Windows 7 to see what fixes will occur, before I install the windows 7 system that I received today. It definitely seems to me that a clean install of 7 is the answer, so I definitely won't upgrade Vista. BTW, I have no problems with Vista, but probably don't use my computer as much as most.
I know it is difficult to wait and I want to see the new Windows speed etc. too.
I hope all of you, like Bob, will have a good experience with installing Windows 7.

I've done 3 installs (All clean installs) and have yet to have a problem.

A clean install is nice but you can still save your user data and at least transfer it over to your new Windows 7 install.
There really isn't any need to wait. Windows 7 has been very reliable even during the beta testing. :)

I would concur there, I installed 7 straight over the Beta - 20 minutes later working like a dream

I was talked into purchasing the full Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit package and its installed and working like a champ.
The system seems much quicker than before but that might be the larger hard drive that I put in and installed.

I highly doubt that extra storage space increases speed. :)

Wait until I load all of my applications and now I have to check if they are 64bit compatible.
I have avast! V5 beta2 running on it 8)

It's not the space, it's the performance. The Western Digital Caviar Black I put in a couple months ago made a BIG difference.

Well it does have 32MB of cache, which may be larger than your last hard drive (probably 8MB) so that will increase the speed a bit, but as Bob said, and increase of storage shouldn't increase speed.
Glad you're shopping from newegg now, if you haven't before. It's a kick ass company!

Made sure I had the latest drivers for the Gigabyte motherboard G31-ES2L as they had updates for Windows 7.
Their driver download site is in Taiwan and horribly slow. :'(

I just replaced the 3 IDE drives I had in my system with the following:

I didn't get it at Amazon. It was installed at the computer shop and I think they made a mistake since I only paid $150.00 :)

Good price. Price here is 274.951 USD http://www.komplett.no/k/ki.aspx?sku=430925

I never realized the kind of bargain I received till YoKenny made his post and I did a little research on the drive I just had installed. :)
Not to worry, I'm sure he made it up in the 4 gigs of ram he sold and installed. :)

ok only the "Aero" thing didnt pass.
hum wonder whats diference in choosing windows 7 architeture 86x or 64x?
-
Its 86x or commonly called 32-bit
The Aero should pass but maybe you need to update the video driver for the NVIDIA GeForce Go 6100 adapter:

Aero
The Aero desktop experience, available in the Home Premium, Professional, Ultimate, and Enterprise editions of Windows 7, mixes cool graphics with useful new ways to manage your desktop.

Thanks, it wasnt necessary to go to Nvidea Website, Windows 7 Updates gave me the drivers for my Nvidea Ge Force Go 6100, dunno if it was from the company Acer who asked Nvidea support for this older laptops, or maybe Nvidea decided to itself since W7 is so nice ;D
I installed the 64 bit version since i have AMD 64 and seems like a new computer with 3gb of memory ram ;D
(I see so 86x is 32bit, i shall remember for the future ::) )
