Title: new user question
Post by: woody123 on October 27, 2009, 08:05:04 PM
Hi,
Just started using Avast a few weeks ago and it seems to work ok but slows down start-up to a crawl.task manager shows that 4-6 instances of ashWebsvce run for about 10 minutes at start up.After this time only 1 ashWebsvce shows.2 or 3 asWUPdsvce also run .
Also it seems that updates are being downloaded when I'm not connected to the internet if the info box which pops up is to be believed.Once this box has come up and I clear the information panel showing the version downlaoded etc.the computer runs at it,s normal speed.
I disabled bootscan so that can't be the slow start-up problem.
I started up at 18.36 and it was 18.52 before I got connected to my webservice. This didn't happen prior to installing Avast.
Any suggestions would be appreciated ???

 :)  Hi :

Best to investigate your problem by asking about your Prior antiVIRUS
program ( Name ) and exactly what you did to remove it from your computer ?

Previous anti-virus was McAfee.Removed -start>control panel>add/remove programmes,everything seemed to go ok,no error messages etc.

Hi
You may need to run the McAfee removal program. As Add & Remove programs is not good enough to remove all remains of McAfee. And uninstall & re install avast!

- You didn't say which McAfee version, so here are the various tools:
- McAfee has an uninstall tool that you could run to ensure any possible remnants are removed.
http://download.mcafee.com/products/licensed/cust_support_patches/VSCleanupTool.exe (http://download.mcafee.com/products/licensed/cust_support_patches/VSCleanupTool.exe) Or http://majorgeeks.com/McAfee_Consumer_Product_Removal_Tool_d5420.html (http://majorgeeks.com/McAfee_Consumer_Product_Removal_Tool_d5420.html)

2007 version - http://download.mcafee.com/products/licensed/cust_support_patches/MCPR.exe (http://download.mcafee.com/products/licensed/cust_support_patches/MCPR.exe)

I don't know how you disabled the boot scan that you re calling it, as the boot-time scan only runs if you say so after installation - after that you have to schedule the boot-time scan and then it is a one shot deal.
