this should help.

"A task manager is a program used to provide information about the processes and programs running on a computer, as well as the general status of the computer. It can also be used to terminate processes and programs, as well as change the processes' priority."

What is the Task Manager you might ask? Well in Windows XP the button combo CTRL+ALT+Delete opens this up. In Vista  and Windows 7 You get options such as " Lock this User,Switch User,Log Off,Change a Password and Start Task Manager.

Regardless CTRL+ALT+Delete is usually used to access the task manager for the above description. Example : When a program isn't responding or is frozen you can access the Task Manager (Ctrl+alt+delete) and find the program or process that is frozen and end it manually if It won't respond.

Hope this helps as well as clears up what it's used for.

Ctrl+Alt+Del is a command to open task manager in XP and something in Vista...Its like Task manager anyway..

I did not hear any virus that will execute on execution of task manager itself..^^

But I heard some viruses can disable the task manager^^

I am running WinXp and to get to my Task Manager, I just right-click on a clean area at the bottom of my screen- where I have my small program shortcut icons at. When you do that, you will then see a list of things that pop up. In that list is "Task Manager".  Click on that, and viola. No having to "Ctrl+Alt+Del".

Ctrl+Alt+Del  is the shortcut method of getting to the Control Mgr in XP What you're describing is another way of getting there. :)

If you use it and reboot, it might be a good time to use chkdsk or scandisc depending on your OS.
