Title: AdwareAlert & RegisterSmart
Post by: tombannisteriii on November 05, 2009, 03:26:50 AM
When I boot my system or start AdwareAlert or RegisterSmart, Avast! finds a virus.  Does this mean I should remove them or is there a fix on the way?  It is ironic that RegisterSmart recommended Avast! in the first place.

See http://www.mywot.com/en/scorecard/adwarealert.com (http://www.mywot.com/en/scorecard/adwarealert.com)
and http://www.mywot.com/en/scorecard/registrysmart.com (http://www.mywot.com/en/scorecard/registrysmart.com).

Neither of which give me confidence in the products.

What is the infected file name, where was it found e.g. (C:\windows\system32\infected-file-name.xxx) ?
Check the avast! Log Viewer (right click the avast 'a' icon), Warning section, this contains information on all avast detections. C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\ashLogV.exe

- Or check the source file using notepad C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\DATA\log\Warning.log and copy and paste the entry.

Many consider AdwareAlert to be a rogue program that gives misleading results. See this Google search results :

http://www.google.com/search?client=opera&rls=en&q=AdwareAlert&sourceid=opera&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8

and in particular these 2 results :

Instead of RegisterSmart, did you mean to type RegisterySmart?
If so, this is another program considered to be a rogue.
