Title: ashServ.exe attempts to access the Internet?
Post by: softwareguy on June 10, 2004, 05:44:22 AM
Even though Avast is set to connect through a proxy under my LAN, ashServ seems to ignore that rule and use direct access. (Which results in failure on accessing the Internet.  ;D)

Destinations are Avast's update servers. I wonder why ashServ tries to check for updates even though I set it to all manual.

Are your proxy settings all right?
Are you sure that is not ashMaiSv.exe which is trying to connect (the avast Mail server)?

Yes, my proxy settings are correct.
Manually initiated updates work and uses the proxy.
But it seems that my firewall always complain about ashServ.exe wanting to directly access the Internet.  :-\

That's the pinging mechanism used to find out if the servers are reachable. To turn this off, use the "My computer is always connected to the Internet" box on the "Updates (Connections)" page.

I'd recommend reading the faq: http://faq.avast.com .
