Title: How to delete the DCIMAN3.dll trojan
Post by: flowergardener on November 06, 2009, 06:45:23 AM
My PC is infected with a virus which damaged something and now Windows XP won't boot. I get a BSOD screen. How can I start my PC so I can run a virus scanner

I found this file when I ran Windows backup. It said this file could not be backed up and stopped trying. It was actually named, DCIman3".dll in the Backup report.

I cannot delete, edit or open this file. I tried MoveOnBoot to mark the file for deletion but the menu says this failed.

Try a rescue CD. Unfortunately avast! doesn't do one, but there are plenty of free ones to choose from.

Download and burn the disk image on an uninfected computer. Boot the infected computer from the disk and run a virus scan (after updating virus definitions if this option is present).

Dr.Web LiveCD (http://www.freedrweb.com/livecd/)
Kaspersky Rescue Disk (http://devbuilds.kaspersky-labs.com/devbuilds/RescueDisk/)
AntiVir Rescue CD (http://dlpro.antivir.com/down/vdf/rescuecd/rescuecd.exe)
Bitdefender Rescue CD (http://download.bitdefender.com/rescue_cd/)
F-Secure Rescue CD (http://www.f-secure.com/linux-weblog/files/f-secure-rescue-cd-release-3.00.zip)

EDIT: Bad links replaced.

There is a new one for Bitdefender, http://content-down.bitdefender.com/rescue_cd/BitDefenderRescueCD_v2.0.0_3_08_2009.iso (http://content-down.bitdefender.com/rescue_cd/BitDefenderRescueCD_v2.0.0_3_08_2009.iso), couldn't easily find one for kaspersky.
