Hi malware fighters,
I use Immunet Protect and am very, very satisfied with the way it functions and the detection accuracy,
but I also read about Panda Cloud AV: http://www.cloudantivirus.com/en/
What cloud av is better?
So I have gone for the following layered security protection next to Immunet Protect- avast resident av solution, Trend Micro RUBotted, SUPER AntiSpyware, MBAM, a-squared Free, Threatfire, ThreatExpert Mem Scanner, MXOne USB-AV, SpywareBlaster, HJT, ESET SysInspector, ClearProg, ATF Cleaner, Secunia PSI,

Can't be too careful, eh Polonus? ;D
Do you mean that you run all of those now? At the same time?
I'm surprised a computer would even run :o

There is a name for this, paranoia..... ;D
-
lol. well, you got it brother!
-
Hi Pondus and scythe944,
No off course these proggies do not run simultaneously on my old acer XP SP3. No Immunet Protect uses very little cycles, this Immunet Thingy is in the cloud and scans only on demand or when files download onto the computer, RUBotted sits there and checks, does not use much, avast is resident and uses quite some mem when a new av update is downloaded, same goes for Threatfire that is the final resident tool there,
a-squared free, MBAM, SAS, ThreatExpert Mem, MX One USB AV, ESET Sys Inspector, ClearProg and ATF Cleaner are not running and on demand scanners, I am paranoid enough to update them on a regular basis.
SpywareBlaster is just a zone protector and block tool.
So my actual resident av solution is a AV-ID trio: avast + Threatfire + Immunet Protect,
Oh yes, and I have a fw,

I'm just jerkin' your chain! ;D
Way too much for me to keep up on though. Especially since I hop around between about 8 computers on a weekly basis. All while testing things, tearing them down and re-building. Now, if I only used one box, and used it for everything I do, I might just be as paranoid as you!
-
Hi scythe944,
I think you were one of the boys that took his own hard disk out and mounted that on his grannies computer just to have your familiar harddisk with you. Did I guess right?
Well paranoia there is nothing wrong with it as long as it is calculated paranoia, blind paranoia is destructive and wrong, well I think we all here are in the same class together else we would be out here in the forums,
your friend pol
-
No, my granny never owned a computer. My hard drives stay home, I don't need to take them with me. ;D
-
This sounds like using two condoms. Too many apps spoil the computer. Seriously, Panda's latest Beta isn't ready for prime time.
-
Hi Corday,
Nobody in his sane mind wants to use two free in the cloud AV scanners at a time.
If you say that Panda isn't ready for outroll yet, is Immunet Protect better.
I know Immunet Protect is lean, mean, and suits me.
Is there anyone that have tested the so-called Panda revelation thingie ;) ?

you're prompted to uninstall Avast in the end of the panda setup, otherwise no install, so I skipped it. There might be a way to trick it ???
-
Isn't Panda promising more than it delivers?
Is it the panaceia?
Aren't we getting paranoid?
The solution is avast 5 ;D
-

huh? why does panda needs to uninstall avast? they think their cloud base protection is enough? watch lots of reviews about it and it FAILS.. >:(
-
Maybe for not one Av conflict with each other!
Everyone says it is not good having two antivirus together etc....
-
Hi shiw liang,
You can have many av's together as long as they are NOT resident av's.
I have avast and clamwin non-resident, and DrWebCureIt and stinger.exe, no problem whatsoever.
We would never have bundled av then. Only two resident av solutions are gonna fight over each others detections/signatures like two dogs that have to guard but started to fight among each other. Avast with ClamWin and Immunet Protect and RUBotted is just like having avast with a couple of extra rear-mirrors to make you more secure....

Maybe if you uninstall avast!, install Panda Cloud av, then reinstall avast!.
I have a free subscription to Panda Internet Security 2010. It includes Panda Cloud av. I tried it for a few days, I didn't like it.
I'll stay with avast!. I'm running Immunet with avast! for a while, maybe indefinite.
-
Hi rdmaloyjr,
Yea, ImmunetProtect and avast and ThreatFire are a very fine combination. I thorougly tested ImmunetProtect and it is a great addition to my layered protection, it won;t leave my computer now...

The first time I used it I was wondering where the update were but there isn't any updater in it!
Then I think I was useless and I removed it!
-
Panda's approach is rather admirable in order to let the end-users conscious of possible conflicts between resident scanners. However, as an introduction of the new approach such as cloud, I think the way of ImmunetProtect is more assuring especially when they get nearly useless when they are not connected to the net.

Hello, i was wondering if downloading the Windows Vista Home Premium (Service pack 2) takes a long time?
my internet connection is only 1.5 mbps and i think this speed is very slow.
I'm asking this coz Immunet Protect needs service pack 2 as one of its requirements.
Or do you know any another alternative or tip so I can download and install it without installing the service pack 2.
Pls hep Thanks! ;D

if you need Vista SP2 either download it directly or let Windows Update take care of it. In either case if you got a slow connection, you will have to leave your system on all night, but that's just once. So no big deal.
ps: IIRC it's about 300 MB, not sure exactly.
edit: 348,3 exactly ;)

oh, i think i can download it for maybe 1-2 hrs or 3.
maybe i'll do it this weekend.. ;D

Hi ~Graven,
Another possibility is to get the download from a point where you have fast access to the Net and take it home on a USB-stick and install it onto your OS from there.
In the old days where people had slow modems there were computer magazines with CD's that had these essential downloads on them,

In the USA, Maximum PC magazine (as well as a few others) still includes such CD's with their magazines ... though I have not seen any Windows updates included on the CD's in the past year or so.
But, I do not subscribe to all of them so there may be one or 2 that do have Windows updates on their CD's.
Also, there are at least a couple of British pc magazines that include CD's but I do not recall the names at the moment.

Browsing forum, I noticed that Pondus posted a relatively new anti-virus comparison here (http://forum.avast.com/index.php?&topic=50526.msg430899#msg430899). Interestingly, the comparison includes some cloud type antivirus products.
Project #1 of the MRG Ongoing Early Life Testing Project (http://malwareresearchgroup.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=22&t=167)
Project #2 of the MRG Ongoing Early Life Testing Project (http://malwareresearchgroup.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=22&t=169)
I don't know the reliability of the data but, while the first test didn't reveal much difference, in the second one, there is a significant difference in which Immunet Protect recorded a considerably bad result with a note.
The cloud based Anti-Malware products:
• Bluepoint Security 1.0.0.75 = 0
• Panda cloud Beta 3 = 7
• Prevx 3.0.5.10 = 8
• Immunet Protect Beta 1.0.18 = 42*
* = Please note, we have discovered an occasional fault with Immunet Protect, which can result in a reduced detection rate. On one of the test runs, Immunet missed 9. We have discussed this with the vendor and point out that this result is not representative of the products usual performance.
So, I guess it should be noted that Immuned Protect is still in beta stage and that it shouldn't be relied on to much. It's nice for the application to be compatible with other "traditional" anti-virus products.

Hi
I am thinking about installing Immunet Protect . just a couple of questions.
If you look in my signature, you will see the system i am using is not very powerful.
Also i connect to the internet by broadband at 256kb's.
Would my old system be okay and with being connected at the lower end of broad band, would Immunet Protect significantly slow down the internet connection.

I think it will scan the page also but the internet is speed will not slow down but the page display may slow down a bit!
-
Thanks shiw liang ;)
That is good to know, will do some more checking out and most likely install tomorrow.

@pete319
Let me know how you make out with Immunet Protect on XP as I could not get it to run on my XP Pro system and it would cause the system to hang.
-
Hi YoKenny
You have made a bit nervous as i am not a whiz with computers.
But at this stage i will still most likely give it a try.I assume if i run into problems it is easy enough to uninstall.
-
@pete319
Its easy to un-install but requires a reboot to complete.
-
If you want to go full cloud, go with Panda Cloud + ThreatFire. Everything else is waste of time and resources imo.

Thanks for that
I have installed it, but it will not connect will try later and see, it seemed to install okay.

YoKenny I had the same problem to it cause my XP to hang, IF you turn off Active Protection Mode and Verbose Tray Notification your XP will not cause the system to hang. My is up and running for almost a month now and no problem so far.

Hi YoKenny
It seems to be running okay now, i did a reboot and that seemed to do the trick.
I did their flash scan and all came up clean.
I will try it and see if i run into any problems, will post back in a couple of days to let you know if it's still running okay. If i get any hangs will be sooner.
I do have a problem have rebooted twice now and when it starts up, a balloon message pops up telling me a important driver failed to load. It is too quick to see name of driver, but seems to be working okay, but i feel i will uninstall

@SpeedyPC
Why don't you make your signature more meaningful by going to PROFILE then Modify Profile then Forum Profile Information then Signature: and enter system information like my signature.
Immunet Protect works fine on my Windows 7 system.
@RejZoR
Panda Cloud wants avast! removed.
I'll stay with what I have. :)
I like my head to be clear and not stuck in the clouds.
-
Mine works fine in my window xp pack 3!
But sometimes it says immunet protect had encounter an error and needs to close!
I wonder why?

Yes it does make you wonder.
I have now uninstalled.

Similar issue but with Vista. My IE crashes open opening and even with a reboot nothing seems to cure it (except for the uninstall).
Is this software Beta or is there an older final release? I tried looking for it but to no avail. The version available on the publisher's site has a license agreement that says beta on it.

As I wrote before, it's beta and I don't think there is any final version yet since the program itself is new.

I have been using Immunet Protect for one month without any problems at all and, even though I am on a dial-up connection, I can hardly notice it is running.

Thank you for re-confirming this Rumpel. I wasn't sure. Usually the publisher tells you that it's a beta version. And that is done or should be done before the license agreement (before the download actually)

Is this on XP, Vista or Win7
YoKenny had a problem with it on XP Pro and I had issues with it on Vista Home Premium.
Given that it's a beta I'll wait for the final release before trying again.
