Title: Tools to improve perfomance/ keep clean OS
Post by: Avast Eagle on November 19, 2009, 07:51:25 PM
So far i use "CCleaner" to clean temporary trash and "Smart Defrag" to Defrag only.

What does anyone sugest more? i once used System care times ago but droped
since it was no longer same thing...  ::)

Having 3gb memory ram in XP i gess theres not much to improve other than disable some few things manualy
while windows adjusts virtual memory automaticaly too...

Please share your comments dear avast members  :)

Unfortunately you give us little information to go on, for example like a signature under your post with general information on your system, CPU, RAM running programs, etc.

More importantly, why you feel the need to improve performance ?
As that implies there is something wrong with your performance, which then begs the question, what is it that you are doing when you feel a lack of performance ?

So as you can see this isn't a straight forward question.

Don't forget to use MS's own Disc Cleanup. It takes longer in XP then other OS.

I love this program: http://www.stevengould.org/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=15&Itemid=69

It's pretty old, but it works great.

That'll clean all temp files.  Then use Auslogics' Disk Defrag (be sure to defrag & OPTIMIZE from time to time, rather than just defrag) http://www.auslogics.com/en/software/disk-defrag/download

Malwarebytes to clean spyware/malware, and avast for anti-virus.

That's about it.

Advance System Optimizer 3, TuneUp Utilities and System Mechanic, both are great programs to improve performance and stability. Another good program to defrag is PerfectDisk. If you search for free utilities, there is good products too: Argente, Ccleaner, and many others.
